CERTIFICATION OPERATIONS
FCB Approved Providers
The rapidly changing character and increasing complexity of our society demands continuous updating of skills. In 1975, the Florida Legislature mandated that continuing education would be required for licensure renewal. Keeping with the legislative mandate, the FCB has implemented a system that monitors the continuing education required for the certified population. Providers of continuing education are charged with the responsibility of conducting offerings that reflect current needs and are in adherence with the rules of the FCB.
The FCB had determined that staying current in addiction treatment is enhanced by continuous updating of knowledge and skills. To this end, the FCB requires continuing education as a condition for certification renewal. Each certified professional must submit twenty (20) hours of continuing education annually (10 for the CBHT level) as part of the renewal proves. The education must come from an approved provider. All renewal CEU’s are due by June 30th of each year. What is an Approved Provider? An approved provider of continuing education is an individual or agency that conducts training which reflects the current need of counselors in the addiction and behavioral health field and which adheres to the rules of the FCB.
